What is the Biden-Lugar amendment?
We have to work together to solve climate change. The Senate's opposition to U.S. participation in international climate agreements has been a stumbling block to finding solutions.
Senators
Joseph Biden (D-DE) and Richard Lugar (R-IN) have championed a resolution that would get the U.S. back on track, by stating the Senate's support for such agreements.
What's Happening With Biden-Lugar?
The resolution passed out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee at the end of March. With your help, we came
close to getting the sixty votes needed to offer it as an amendment and pass it as part of the Senate's energy bill in June.
Unfortunately, we came up two votes short, so Senators Biden and Lugar decided to hold off.
We Still Have a Shot!
We can still pass this important amendment! The Senate plans to work on a climate bill this fall, and if we get the votes we need, we can get the Biden-Lugar amendment passed as part of that bill.
And with the next round of climate negotiations happening in Bali
in December, what better way to send a message to the world that the
U.S. is back in the game?
Stay Tuned!
We will need your help to make sure this gets into the Senate's fall climate bill! Check out the information and the script below so you can be ready when the time comes!
