Although Global Solutions PAC and the candidates we supported made significant gains in 2008, there is much more to be accomplished in the 2010 Election cycle. In 2010, we must protect the gains that we have made in previous elections.

From the environment to terrorism, there is an urgent need for solutions that transcend national borders. Making the world a safe, just and equitable place will require teamwork and a common set of rules we can all live by. This is our shared vision. Our task is to ensure that we are represented by lawmakers who share this vision with us.

In a thrilling come-from-behind upset, Representative Joe Sestak (D-PA), a longtime champion of CGS issues who has served in the House of Representatives since 2007, defeated incumbent Senator Arlen Specter in the Pennsylvania Democratic Senate primary on May 18th.

Global Solutions PAC has endorsed and contributed to Rep. Sestak’s primary campaign.

Rep. Sestak is a former admiral who beat the odds when he upset incumbent Rep. Curt Weldon in 2006 with CGS’s support. He has become a strong ally of Citizens for Global Solutions, earning A+’s every year since his election on our Congressional Report Card. In 2008, after winning reelection, he said, "From climate change to nuclear proliferation, the toughest challenges we face today require that we work with our allies to form global solutions. Citizens for Global Solutions works tirelessly on the grassroots level to build support for commonsense policies that make America and the world safer and more peaceful. I thank them for their support."

Rep. Sestak will face former Rep. Pat Toomey (R-PA) in the fall general election. CGS will continue doing all we can to support Rep. CHALLENGER ENDORSEMENTS

CGS has also made several endorsements of challengers in House and Senate races so far in 2010. We have chosen to support candidates who share CGS’s commitment to international cooperation and whom we believe will be valuable allies in Congress. Citizens for Global Solutions' 2010 Congressional Candidate Questionnaire is a valuable tool for learning what positions Congressional candidates take on issues ranging from international health and climate change to peacekeeping, prosecuting acts of heinous violence, and creating a UN Emergency Peace Service (UNEPS) that would rapidly respond to man-made and natural disaster. It is also a tool to educate candidates, including incumbents, on global issues. If a candidate in your area hasn't sent us a candidate questionnaire yet, you can direct them to www.globalsolutions.org/pac or download a PDF copy it and send it to him or her as a constituent. Asking candidates to respond to Citizens for Global Solutions' 2010 Candidate Questionnaire is an important action. It informs them about important global issues that you care about, and when they respond you will know where they stand.
