A new chapter of Citizens for Global Solutions has recently been organized in Oxford, Mississippi, home to the campus of the University of Mississippi. As the U.S. reexamines its role in global institutions, citizens from every part of the country need to participate. PITTSBURGH CHAPTER G-20 LECTURE SERIES Our Pittsburgh Chapter kicked off its annual lecture series on September 17 at 6 pm on the University of Pittsburgh campus. As the world's attention turned to Pittsburgh for the G-20 Summit, held there on September 24-25, the Pittsburgh Chapter talked about the G-20 and how the Summit relates to the issues upon which Citizens for Global Solutions is focused. PITTSBURGH CHAPTER NAMES GIOVANNELLI Daniel Giovannelli has been named Acting Director of Global Solutions Pittsburgh. Dan has been active in Global Solutions Pittsburgh as the Director of Education, a Board of Directors member, a volunteer, and a participant in Global Solutions Pittsburgh's Model U.N program. Dan recently graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Masters of Public Administration and Juris Doctorate. ST. LOUIS CHAPTER UNITED NATIONS DAY EVENTS
The speaker will be popular author, TV personality, and photographer Helena Mulkerns from Ireland. She spent a year and a half living in Central America working for MINUGUA, the United Nations Human Rights Verification Mission in Guatemala, and then moved to Africa in 2000, working for UNMEE, the UN Peacekeeping Mission for Ethiopia and Eritrea. Ms. Mulkerns has written a film script on land mines and their impact on children. "How to Make the U.N. More Effective" St. Louis Chapter member Ron Glossop will be talking about the Responsibility to Protect Principle and how to implement it (which will lead into a discussion on the International Criminal Court and weighted voting). A speaker from the League of Women Voters will discuss the Millennium Development Goals, what has happened so far to advance them, and what should be done to advance them further.
